Mangad Chronicles
Bundled in the centre of Kannur, a district in northern Kerala, my little home town ‘Mangad’ or better known as Mangattuparamba, while relatively small, is steeped in history and tradition, and every corner holds a story of the past. After spending my entire childhood in various states across India, it was finally when I turned 13, my family settled in the beautiful abode of Mangattuparamba. Since then Mangad has not just been any place on a map, it’s been my home!

Filled with the lush greenery of coconut palms, rubbers and plantations, Mangad is surrounded by paddy fields, ponds and ‘kaavu’ or temples, thus making it a nature lover’s paradise. With its tranquil atmosphere, a stroll through the lush landscapes, or by one of the many small rivers and streams that dot the area, it proves to be the perfect spot to unwind The sound of rustling leaves and flowing water is enough to melt away all your stress.

The best part of this technical and industrial growth of my hometown happens to be the fact that it never hindered our cultural roots. Mangad’s culture is deeply rooted in traditions passed down for generations. Festivals here are celebrated with grandeur and devotion, bringing the community together like a big family. Vishu, Onam, Pooram and Kerala Piravi are the highlights of the year. During these festivals, the entire village is filled with excitement. People decorate their homes with flowers, prepare delicious feasts, and participate in grand temple processions. The streets are filled with people wearing traditional attire, celebrating with joy; coming together as one family.
